ePaper (electronic paper, also called e-ink) is a display technology that mimics the appearance of printed paper and consumes power only when the image changes. Unlike LCD or LED, ePaper displays hold an image indefinitely with zero power draw, making them ideal for low-energy digital signage in scenarios where content updates infrequently but readability and battery life are critical.

Modern ePaper displays are available in monochrome and color variants, in sizes from small shelf labels (1"–7") to large public information boards (32"+). They are readable in direct sunlight and have wide viewing angles, but slower refresh rates than LCD — best suited for static or semi-static content. Livesignage supports ePaper endpoints for green signage and battery-powered scenarios.

Use Cases

ePaper is the right format when energy and readability matter more than motion:

- Retail shelf-edge labels: thousands of price tags updated centrally from the ERP.
- Meeting room signs: low-power Live Meeting Room endpoints in corporate environments.
- Public information boards: transit schedules, wayfinding, library notices.
- Green signage initiatives: facilities targeting energy-efficient communication.
- Outdoor and semi-outdoor info panels: solar-powered installations.
