digital signage GLOSSARY

Progressive Web App

A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a web application that delivers a native-app-like experience in the browser — fast loading, offline-capable, installable to the home screen — without requiring distribution through an app store. In digital signage, PWAs are the technical foundation of mobile conversion: the page that opens when a visitor scans a QR code, taps an NFC tag, or follows a BLE beacon to extend the signage experience onto their phone.

Livesignage generates and hosts PWAs as part of every signage project, designed in the same no-code Experience Designer used for screen content. The platform's +67% mobile conversion lift is built on PWAs: a customer in front of a display scans the QR code, opens the branded PWA in their browser, and continues the journey — view a catalog, complete an order, sign up, download a guide — all with full attribution back to the originating screen.
