NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless protocol that enables contactless data exchange between devices held within 4 cm of each other. In digital signage, NFC tags embedded in or near a display let visitors tap their smartphone to instantly open a digital experience — a product page, a coupon, a payment, an identification flow, a contact card.

NFC complements QR codes as the second main bridge between physical signage and mobile devices. NFC is faster (a tap, no scan), more discreet (no visible code), and supports identification scenarios that QR codes cannot. Livesignage handles NFC triggers natively in the Flow engine: a tap launches a coordinated experience on the display and a paired Progressive Web App on the visitor's phone.

Use Cases

NFC opens scenarios where speed and minimal friction matter:

- Retail and luxury: tap a product to see specs, reviews, or stock at other stores.
- Museums and exhibitions: tap an exhibit to start the audio guide or get deeper content.
- Hospitality: tap to check in, unlock room access, or order room service.
- Events and trade shows: tap a booth to capture a lead or exchange digital business cards.
- Smart city and public transport: tap a stop to see schedules, alerts, or ticket options.
